The death video has recently been released by an order of the judge. Cedrick
was a 17year-old African American and his case is an example of a wrongful-death lawsuit. He was reported carjacked and was shot by police officers when he ran from them on Chicago's south side. In the afternoon of January 7, 2013 two officers in plain clothes pulled up to a Dodge Charger that was reported stolen, and the officers ordered Chatman out of the car at gunpoint. Chatman ran. An officer claims he saw a grey or black object in Chatman's hand and thought it was a gun. Officer Kevin Fry shot at Chatman four times, and the object turned out to be an iphone box. Complaints were made that Officer Fry used excessive when not needed. Neither officers are charged with any wrong doing and remained on duty.
Lorenzo Davis, a former supervisor at the authority, was investigating the shooting and found it unnecessary to shoot him and he recommended that Fry should be fired. The top echelon disagreed with Davis and Davis fired him.
